Jerry Blavat’s star-studded concerts at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia have become as legendary as the “Geator with the Heater” himself.
Blavat’s show Saturday night inside Verizon Hall at the Kimmel promises to be yet another must-see musical extravaganza.
If you plan on going to “Jerry Blavat’s Soul Rhythm & Harmony Revue” Saturday, don’t be surprised if you see many in the audience shaking their groove things.
With disco titans Peaches & Herb (”Shake Your Groove Thing”), The Trammps (”Disco Inferno”) and Candi Staton (”Young Hearts Run Free”), how can they not?
“We’re going to have our audience dancing in the aisles,” Blavat said.
“This is our sixteenth show at the Kimmel,” he said, “and anyone who’s been to our Kimmel Center shows knows they’re going to see some of the most legendary artists in music history.”
The other legends the show include such 1970s soul sonic forces as Eddie Holman (”Hey There Lonely Girl”), The Manhattans (”Kiss and Say Goodbye”) and a tribute to The Spinners by former member G.C. Cameron, who sang lead on the group’s 1970 hit, “It’s A Shame.”
“As an added bonus, (renowned producer, songwriter and leader of The Moonglows) Harvey Fuqua will be flying in from Las Vegas to perform,” Blavat said.
Once again, Blavat has made sure that his acts will be afforded the best possible showcase of their talents.
The artists will be accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra, which will be performing precise chart arrangements of their respective songs.
Winfred “Blue” Lovett — one of the founding members of The Manhattans who performed at Blavat’s April 2004 “Soul Sound Spectacular” concert at the Kimmel Center — said he’s looking forward to returning to the Kimmel.
“The Kimmel Center has that big, Apollo Theater feel to it,” Lovett said.
“Every seat (in Verizon Hall, at the Kimmel) is a good seat — when you’re onstage, you feel like you can reach out and touch the audience,” he said. “Everything about the Kimmel is top-shelf — I love the place.”
